Joseph Pecora was recently elected to a 3-year term as international Director for the Institute of Transportation Engineers. The Institute of Transportation Engineers is a international, individual member, scientific, and educational association.
The purpose of the Institute is twofold: to enable engineers and other professionals with knowledge and competence in transportation and traffic engineering to contribute individually and collectively toward meeting human needs for mobility and safety, and to promote the professional development of its members by supporting and encouraging education, stimulating research, developing public awareness, exchanging professional information, and maintaining a central point of reference and action.
The institute's membership is composed of almost 15,000 individual transportation professionals in more than 80 countries. They are responsible for planning, designing, and operating surface transportation systems, and are employed by both public and private sector organizations.
