A member of the Board of Commissioners of the Oyster Bay Sewer District since 1972, Thomas D. Galasso brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as chairman.

A lifelong Oyster Bay resident, Commissioner Galasso served as treasurer for 25 years before becoming chairman in August 1997. Under his leadership, the district was able to secure a $3.75 million grant awarded by Governor George Pataki through the Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act to be used for waste water treatment plant improvements, an operations and maintenance excellence award from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and a PERMA (Public Employer Risk Management Association) Certificate of Recognition for providing a safe workplace for its employees.

Originally employed by the internationally renowned accounting firm of Price Waterhouse & Co., Commissioner Galasso has worked for the Town of Oyster Bay's Office of the Comptroller since 1970. After serving the office in various capacities over the years, he was named comptroller in January 1998. A graduate of both St. Dominic grade and high schools in Oyster Bay and C.W. Post College of L.I.U. in Brookville, Commissioner Galasso was in private practice as an accountant for over 29 years until he retired his practice in 1998.

Deeply involved in political, community and religious organizations, Commissioner Galasso is past treasurer of the Oyster Bay Kiwanis Club and is currently a member of the Nassau County Republican Committee, serving as Executive Leader of Oyster Bay since 1994. Prior to that he was Treasurer of the Oyster Bay Republican Club, Inc. for 20 years. He is currently a supporting member of the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center, Inc. and is a member of such organizations as the Italian-American Citizens Club, the Oyster Bay Historical Society, the Friends of Raynham Hall and the St. Dominic R. C. Church Usher Society. He has also played an active role in the annual St. Rocco's Feast for many years.

Professional affiliations of Commissioner Galasso's include the American Accounting Association and the New York State Government Finance Officer's Association.
