Since the turn of world events back in September of 2001, officials of the Oyster Bay Sewer District have been in touch on a regular basis with law enforcement authorities and security officials on a local, state and national level. After conducting a vulnerability assessment study, several new security measures have been put in place. Passersby might have noticed the addition of a motorized gate at the entranceway to the district's administration office. The structure allows for the property to be locked up after hours, at which time an electronic entry keypad is required. This allows the district to grant or deny access to any individual with the touch of a button and provides a time log of who entered the property.

"Unfortunately, times have changed and we need to be more diligent when it comes to security issues," explained District Chairman Thomas D. Galasso. "We are committed to doing whatever is necessary to protect the safety of this facility and will continue to explore our options."

Anyone who notices anything unusual occurring on or near sewer district property should contact the police. Better to err on the side of caution.
