Since joining the Board of Commissioners of the Oyster Bay Sewer District in February, 1972, Thomas D. Galasso has established a reputation as a hard working and responsive Sewer Commissioner who is always available to residents.

He is a graduate of both St. Dominic grade and high schools in Oyster Bay and C.W. Post College of L.I.U. (B.S. Degree in Accounting) in Brookville, New York.

Originally employed by the prestigious International Accounting Firm of Price Waterhouse & Company, Commissioner Galasso was employed over forty years by the Town of Oyster Bay, Office of the Comptroller, serving in various capacities including his final position as the Comptroller for twelve years, retiring in 2010.

He ran in 1972 for his first elected term and has been re-elected for each three-year term since then for over forty-eight years. He served as Treasurer for twenty-five years. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Sewer Commissioners for over twenty-three years. As an accountant and auditor by profession, he deals with all administrative duties of the district.

A lifelong resident of Oyster Bay hamlet, Commissioner Galasso is also a member of the Nassau County Republican Committee, serving as Executive Leader of Oyster Bay for twenty-six years. Prior to that he was the Treasurer of the Oyster Bay Republican Club, Inc. for twenty years.

Long active in community and religious organizations, Commissioner Galasso is a forty-year member of the Italian-American Citizens Club, and a member of the St. Dominic R.C. Church Usher Society. He also was past Treasurer of the Oyster Bay Kiwanis Club and was in private practice as an accountant for over twenty-nine years until he retired his practice in February 1998.

Joseph G. Pecora was appointed Commissioner of the Oyster Bay Sewer District in September of 1997 by the Town of Oyster Bay Town Board, to fill the unexpired term of Dave Layton. In December, 1997 Mr. Pecora was elected to his first 3 year term.

Mr. Pecora graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in New York and Florida, and a Registered Traffic Engineer in California. He has over 25 years experience in the fields of Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning. As the Director of Traffic Engineering for Nassau County, he is the chief transportation official, responsible for many of the traffic engineering needs of its 1.3 million residents.

Mr. Pecora is also Chairman of the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board, a coalition of private, public, not-for-profit and community groups committed to reducing vehicular injuries and fatalities, while improving safety for all the users of Nassau County's highways.

The Traffic Safety Board has been designated as the lead agency in the development of the County-wide strategic Highway Safety Plan as directed by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee. The Board is responsible for organizing all Coalition members interested in injury prevention. The strategic plan is to request the Governor's Highway Safety Committee for highway safety funds to implement those interventions that the Coalition determines will be most effective. Prevalent emphasis is on deterring drunk driving through the self-supporting "STOP-DWI" efforts. Fines from convictions for driving while intoxicated or ability impaired are used to fund component agency special costs in law enforcement, prosecution, probation, rehabilitation and education, as well as administration of the Program. The Board has a permanent staff of 4, with an operating budget of approximately $300,000.

James T. Whelan was appointed Commissioner of the Oyster Bay Sewer District on May 10, 2005 by the Town Board of the Town of Oyster Bay, replacing James P. Murphy, Jr. who retired.

Mr. Whelan's family history has been a part of Oyster Bay for over 100 years starting with the Royce family who owned a grocery store in town that was patronized by the Roosevelt family. His grandfather owned and operated an automobile service station through the 1950's and 1960's where the current "Boys and Girls Club" now stands. Both of his parents were graduates of St. Dominic High School.

Mr. Whelan was a graduate from SUNY College of Technology at Farmingdale with a B.E.T. in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and an A.A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology. Mr. Whelan currently works for the Town of Oyster Bay, Department of Public Works in the engineering division, where he has been employed since April, 1996. Prior to joining to Town of Oyster Bay, Mr. Whelan was employed for 5 years as a Mechanical Systems Engineer at Lockheed Space Operations Co., Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Mr. Whelan is currently President of the Oyster Bay Republican Club, Inc., and has also been the co-chairman of various committees.

Local organizations have also benefited from Mr. Whelan's participation. He has been a coach of the Oyster Bay/East Norwich Leagues and the Police Athletic League.

Mr. Whelan volunteers his time yearly to help at local non-profit fundraising events such as the Saint Rocco's Feast.

Mr. Whelan resides in Oyster Bay with his wife and two sons.
